The Real-time Outbreak and Disease Surveillance System is a computer-based public surveillance system. This wiki contains documentation on the installation and configuration of the RODS System.
[edit] Developers
We created the RODS API so that developers could create applications that interact in new ways with the Real-time Outbreak and Disease Surveillance System.
The RODS API is a standards-based Web service that makes extensive use of REST-style methods for accessing and contributing data from/to the RODS system. This is the same type of Web service style being used by Facebook, Google and Yahoo so as a Web 2.0 developer you will feel right at home. We've made the methods as easy to understand as possible, and this wiki includes full documentation to help you learn more.
Because the platform uses a standards-based Web service, you can create an application on top of the RODS API using the programming language of your choice. And because the platform uses standards-based authentication, OpenID and soon OAuth, your applications can interact with the Open Rods Platform too!
The default user interface for RODS is written on top of this platform so you can be assured that the API works as advertised.
All content is created by the RODS Laboratory and our developers, so feel free to contribute!
